Local police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife arrested a 66-year-old man for a violent attempted robbery involving a knife, after a witness helped officers track him down.

Local police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife arrested a 66-year-old man last night on suspicion of a violent attempted robbery. The incident took place near the Galcerán bridge in the city.

The suspect, identified as J.P.G.S., allegedly tried to steal a mobile phone from a woman who was walking home after work. The woman resisted, and other people nearby helped her, forcing the suspect to flee.

A witness called the local police and stayed on the phone with officers, following the suspect in their car. This crucial help allowed police to find the man on Bravo Murillo street and recover the knife he had tried to throw away during his escape.

National Police assisted the victim, while local officers arrested the suspect and secured the weapon. The arrested man was taken to a health center, then to the police station, before being handed over to the judicial authorities.
