Major TF-5 Road Closure in Northern Tenerife to Cause Two-Week Travel Disruptions
The Tenerife Island Council has announced a two-week closure of a section of the TF-5 between Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque for essential road surface improvements starting August 30.
Drivers in the north of Tenerife should prepare for significant travel disruptions over the next two weeks. The Tenerife Island Council has announced a full closure of a key section of the TF-5 Island Ring, between kilometer points 50.9 and 62.2, connecting Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque. The closure is necessary for road surface improvements using cold micro-asphalt. During this time, traffic will be diverted to the TF-42 and TF-82.
Because the material used requires specific weather conditions to set properly, the work has been split into two phases. The first phase, scheduled for August 30 and 31, will take place overnight from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM to allow for ground leveling. The second phase begins on September 1, requiring 24-hour closures to complete the paving.
The work will directly impact the Buen Paso roundabout in Icod de los Vinos, the access to El Tanque, and the turnoff to El Amparo. The Council noted that the timeline may change depending on weather and the progress of the work, and they are urging drivers to follow all temporary signage carefully.
These repairs are part of ongoing maintenance for the island’s road network, where heavy traffic and challenging terrain make regular upgrades essential for safety. Because the alternative routes are expected to become very busy, officials advise travelers to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.
