A major pipe burst near the Vuelta Grande reservoir has disrupted water supplies to several neighborhoods in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with repair crews working to restore service as quickly as possible.

Water supplies in Santa Cruz de Tenerife were disrupted this Wednesday following a major pipe burst connected to the Vuelta Grande reservoir. Carlos Tarife, the city’s first deputy mayor, confirmed that the break occurred on Juan de Mattos y Azofea Street, cutting off service to residents in Tío Pino, García Escámez, Chamberí, and Los Moriscos.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining aging urban water networks, which require regular investment to prevent such failures. Repairs to main supply lines are complex and time-consuming, as crews must prioritize the structural integrity of the pipes before water can safely flow again.

Repair teams are currently on-site working to fix the damage. While officials hope to restore service overnight, they are advising caution, as the timeline depends on the progress of the repairs. Because factors like water pressure and the depth of the damage can complicate the process, the city has not yet provided a definitive time for when the water supply will be fully restored.
