Magical Garden Opens in San Andrés, Featuring Solar-Powered Lights
The El Pescador neighborhood association in San Andrés has created a magical garden filled with gnomes, fairies, and solar-powered lights, transforming a former garbage dump into a whimsical space for children, open until November.
Tiny gnomes, magical trees, fairy homes, and miniature dragon trees and flowers bring a special charm to the magic garden created by the El Pescador neighborhood association in San Andrés. This is the third year they've put it together.
This project is especially for kids, and this year there are some new surprises. Some of the characters in this dreamy garden light up at night, powered by solar energy they collect during the day.
The magic garden is located on a small piece of land near the bridge to Taganana. It brings happiness and hope to this coastal town of Santa Cruz. The garden features a hundred figures that fill a space that used to be a garbage dump with fantasy.
Marcos Cova, from the El Pescador neighborhood association, designs and builds this tiny world each year. It opens tomorrow and will be available to the public until November. Then, the magical creatures will be replaced by a nativity scene for the holidays.
"This year, we have lots of figures and a great new feature: the garden looks different during the day and at night because of the new lights. It's another attraction for the many visitors, mostly children, since it's right on the road to the school," Cova said.
Cova, who lives in San Andrés, has been working for weeks with a colleague to perfect every detail of the unique magic garden. He mentioned that "many of the figures, like the trees, are collector's items and quite expensive. We also have to pay for moss and other decorations."
He added, "Our biggest worry is that we'll have a repeat of 2023, when many figures were stolen from the previous garden. We estimated the losses at around 200 euros. We hope it doesn't happen again this year, and the neighbors are keeping an eye on the space, especially at night. Still, I'm excited about it."
