Macaca Radiata Emerges as Rising Force in Canary Islands Music Scene
Canarian duo Macaca Radiata is gaining national acclaim for their genre-blending sound following the success of their award-winning debut album, Aún nos queda tiempo.
The Canary Islands music scene is currently buzzing with creativity, and the duo Macaca Radiata is at the forefront of this movement. Made up of La Palma natives Sonia Martell and Jorge Pérez, the pair—now based in the capital—is gaining attention for a unique sound that blends rock, traditional island folk, and formal musical training.
The project began while the duo was living in Madrid and has since gained momentum following the June 2024 release of their debut album, Aún nos queda tiempo. Recorded across Buenos Aires, Madrid, and the Canary Islands, the album earned them the "Breakthrough Artist of 2024" award from Los 40 Principales Canarias, cementing their growing influence on the national stage.
Their music draws from a diverse range of inspirations, including Oasis, Fito Páez, Natalia Lafourcade, and the Canarian group Taburiente. They are currently channeling these influences into their next project, REVOLUCIÓN. For this record, the duo has returned to their roots in La Palma, choosing to record on the island to give the music a more intimate, local feel.
Fans can catch their latest evolution live at upcoming shows: May 1st at La Bowie in Tenerife and July 24th at the Circo de Marte in La Palma. With these performances, Macaca Radiata continues to prioritize experimentation over traditional labels, defining their own path in the music industry.
