Mírame TV Launches Telemaratón to Aid 40,000 Facing Poverty in Canary Islands
Mírame Televisión's annual Telemaratón on December 17th aims to collect essential goods for 40,000 vulnerable individuals in the Canary Islands facing poverty and social exclusion.
Mírame Televisión is holding its annual Telemaratón on December 17th, aiming to collect essential goods for those in need across the Canary Islands. The event will take place at Mercatenerife, which will be open all day for donations from both individuals and companies.
The TV channel, led by Manuel Artiles, is asking for the public's support to help 40,000 people struggling with severe poverty. The goal is to provide for the basic needs of the Food Bank's users in the coming months. The Food Bank, with the help of over 200 organizations, supports vulnerable people throughout the islands.
The Telemaratón will be broadcast live on Mírame TV on Wednesday, December 17th, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. All donations collected before and during the event will be stored and distributed by the Food Bank to its 40,000 users, including nearly 6,000 children, before Christmas.
This year's challenge is to collect non-perishable food, toiletries, clothing, shoes, baby essentials, new toys, and items for the elderly. The Food Bank will coordinate the distribution with the help of law enforcement, the Army, and the logistics company Intesa, ensuring donations reach recipients before the holidays.
Charitable organizations have faced difficulties in recent years due to a lack of European funding. Persistent poverty and limited aid in the Canary Islands are the main reasons behind this Telemaratón.
Issues like rising housing costs and low wages mean that almost 700,000 people in the Canary Islands, nearly one in three, are at risk of social exclusion, according to the European Anti-Poverty Network.
Mírame TV is encouraging everyone to contribute. Donations can be made at Mercatenerife on the day of the event, or at designated collection points in the weeks leading up to it. Information on these points can be found on the website mirametv.com, social media, and the channel's special programming.
