La Laguna will defend "Hearts of Tejina": the City Council will collaborate with the association
The Mayor of La Laguna has joined forces with the "Hearts of Tejina" association to preserve and promote the local cultural heritage, specifically the tradition of making "Hearts of Tejina."
The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, has agreed with the "Hearts of Tejina" Association to work together. Together, they will protect, develop, and support the tradition of the "Hearts of Tejina."
What are their plans? For example, involving schoolchildren and students in the making of these "Hearts." And also inviting sign language interpreters to various festive events. They will also collaborate during important events, such as the poetry competition, the "Hearts" festival, and storytelling.
The Mayor emphasized that these events are an important part of the city's cultural heritage. And that the "Hearts of Tejina" are one of the main symbols for local residents, who actively participate in the celebrations every year.
"The collection of materials, the creation of these symbols, their solemn procession to the church, the bright streets, the music – all of this is very emotional and makes the holiday special," added Luis Yeray Gutiérrez.
The "Hearts of Tejina" Association will be responsible for organizing and conducting the activities stipulated in the agreement. The City Council will support them financially, allocating 10,000 euros for advertising and organization.
The celebrations last throughout August, but the most interesting events take place on Sunday, August 24. That's when the traditional "Hearts" are solemnly brought to the square near the church. It's always a very emotional moment!
In addition to this event, guests can expect more than fifty different activities: children's entertainment, cultural and sports events, parades, concerts, film screenings, folklore festivals, and fireworks.
