Los Silos is launching the first flea market in northwest Tenerife, aiming to promote a circular economy by encouraging the reuse of good quality second-hand items.

Los Silos is launching the first flea market in northwest Tenerife. This idea comes from the Local Employment and Development Agency (AEDL), which is part of the Commerce Department.

"We've been thinking about this since 2025," explains Adán López (PSOE). He also heads the Environment department and sees this market as a way to promote a "circular economy." "Our goal is for people to bring good quality second-hand items so they can be reused," he adds, meaning giving objects a second life instead of throwing them away.

The market will host 12 stalls and will take place next Sunday, April 26, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This first event is a trial. "We'll see how it goes, and then we'll decide if it will continue," López confirmed.

You can register until all spots are taken. To sign up, visit the municipal offices at the old market in person. Los Silos City Council will provide everything participants need: tents, tables, and boards, which will be set up behind the Church of Nuestra Señora de La Luz. Vendors will set their own prices.

The AEDL has already received many calls from interested individuals. López also mentioned that businesses looking to sell off products due to liquidation or other reasons are welcome. "The only thing we ask is that items are in good condition – no junk," he stressed. The Los Silos City Council is also thinking about adding children's activities or music to the flea market. This would happen alongside the regular Sunday Farmers' Market in Plaza de La Luz.

For instance, the Isla Baja-IBATE surf club will be there. Members of this group will sell used surfing gear like wetsuits, boards, fins, and other water sports equipment.

Currently, the only other active flea market in northern Tenerife is the Puerto de la Cruz Market, held near the main market every Wednesday and Saturday. The Puerto de la Cruz City Council manages it and charges a fee for stall space. In contrast, the south of the island and Santa Cruz host several weekly flea and street markets.
