Los Silos has launched a €2.1 million project to modernize its public lighting network with energy-efficient LED and solar technology, aiming to reduce costs and carbon emissions.

Los Silos is launching its biggest project of the year: a €2.1 million overhaul of the town’s public lighting network. This investment matches the budget for the local auditorium and has already earned national recognition, ranking as the top proposal in the region and one of the best in the country by the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE).

The project involves replacing existing lights with LED technology and solar power. By installing smart, remote-controlled systems, the town aims to cut energy costs while meeting global sustainability goals. The local government expects work to begin before this summer, with the project taking approximately nine months to complete.

Mayor Carmen Luz Baso described the initiative as a turning point for the town, noting that it will improve public safety while significantly reducing the municipality’s carbon footprint. Infrastructure Councilor Francisco Antonio Sosa added that these advanced management systems are a vital step toward modernizing local services.

The project is currently in the public bidding phase, which remains open until the 26th. Through this initiative, the Los Silos City Council hopes to build a more efficient, connected town by using state funding to upgrade infrastructure and protect the environment.
