Los Realejos has unveiled a new commemorative sculpture by artist Ibrahim Hernández to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its historic May Festivities.

Los Realejos has unveiled a new sculpture to celebrate 50 years of its May Festivities. The monument, which marks the period from 1976 to 2026, serves as a tribute to the town’s rich history and local culture.

Created by artist Ibrahim Hernández, the sculpture is located at the junction of Avenida de Canarias, Calle La Gomera, and Calle El Hierro. The life-sized, bronze-finished resin piece features three figures: a woman in traditional dress wearing the medal of Our Lady of Los Remedios, a musician playing a timple, and a child holding fireworks—a nod to the town’s famous festive rivalry between the streets of El Sol and El Medio.

The artwork also includes a replica of the cross from the Mother Church of the Apostle Santiago, a key symbol of the area's religious traditions. The inauguration ceremony was attended by local officials and community representatives, featuring a blessing by parish priest Ángelo Nardone and a performance by the Acorán Folk Group.

This project is part of a wider effort by the City Council to preserve the town's intangible heritage. By capturing the spirit of these celebrations in a permanent monument, the council aims to honor the past and ensure that Los Realejos’ unique identity is passed down to future generations.
