Los Realejos has reduced unemployment by 45.12% between February 2021 and January 2026, alongside significant budget growth and new business openings, according to Mayor Adolfo González.

Los Realejos has seen a big improvement in jobs over the last five years, according to Mayor Adolfo González. This town in Tenerife has cut the number of unemployed people by 45.12% between February 2021 and January 2026.

To be precise, the official figures show that unemployment dropped from 5,219 people in February 2021 to 2,864 by the end of last January. This positive trend is supported by an average of 7,550 people paying into Social Security over the past year, which the local government calls a record high. Also, in 2025, more than 65 new businesses opened compared to fewer closures, which the councilor says highlights the strong local economy.

This economic boost goes hand-in-hand with a similar rise in the town's budget. The Los Realejos City Council's finances have grown by about 45%, from managing 30.1 million euros in 2021 to over 43.6 million in the current financial year of 2026. The local government has focused on social spending and investment, putting over 1.5 million euros directly into employment and commerce. All areas of the town's budget have seen notable increases.

The town's plan focuses on boosting the economy, bringing life back to local shops, and encouraging new businesses. This includes direct financial help, incentives, its own business incubator, and training and career advice projects. These are done in partnership with expert groups to help residents improve their skills.

One key initiative from the local government is the upcoming 3rd North Tenerife Professions Fair, happening on March 4 and 5. Hosted by Los Realejos, this event will showcase many vocational training options in the area, with a special focus on local schools, aiming to guide young people towards their future careers and financial stability.

For longer-term projects, the City Council is creating master plans for its open-air shopping areas. Also, working with the Cabildo de Tenerife, they are developing the technical plans for an innovative Industry 4.0 Business Incubator. For this incubator, they are looking into funding options with the INCYDE Foundation, which will also help local businesses go digital and revitalize commerce in the town.

The mayor has repeated that the town's goal is to make Los Realejos an appealing place to live, with easy-to-access services and a hub for investment. This is thanks to an economy that is becoming more stable, sustainable, circular, and ready for digital changes and future challenges.
