Los Realejos Launches Fourth Annual 'DiverCampus' With Record Participation
The municipality of Los Realejos has launched its fourth annual "DiverCampus" program, achieving record participation while promoting inclusive summer activities for children of all abilities.
Los Realejos has reached a new milestone in its commitment to diversity with the launch of the fourth annual "DiverCampus" program. According to the local council, the initiative has hit a record high of 50 participants, bringing together 37 children with functional diversity and 13 without.
More than just a summer activity, the program addresses a vital need for families: balancing work and home life during the school holidays. Running from early July through early September at the Casa del Emprendedor, the camp operates from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Its core philosophy is "reverse inclusion," where children of all abilities learn from one another, helping them build social skills and independence in a natural, supportive environment.
The program’s success is driven by its highly qualified staff. A multidisciplinary team of 12 specialists—including nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, and teachers—leads the activities. To ensure the highest standard of care, the team has received specialized training in autism, intellectual disabilities, and emergency protocols from local experts.
By providing a safe, inclusive space, the municipality is working to close inequality gaps. The program not only offers much-needed support for caregivers but also ensures that every child, regardless of their abilities, has access to educational leisure, healthy habits, and meaningful community integration.
