Los Realejos Issues 300+ Housing Licenses Ahead of Master Plan
Los Realejos has issued over 300 urban planning licenses for new homes, including social and private developments, accelerating the process ahead of its new General Urban Planning Plan to boost housing availability and attract investment.
Los Realejos has issued urban planning licenses for over 300 new homes, including both social housing and private developments. The local Urban Planning Department sped up this process in recent months, largely due to the upcoming General Urban Planning Plan (PGO), which takes effect on the 23rd. According to Noelia González, the Councillor for Urban Planning, these two factors have been key to boosting new housing projects in the area.
Mayor Adolfo González noted that landowners are keen to start new housing projects, both for sale and social housing. He also pointed out the new opportunities the General Urban Planning Plan will create for various urban development projects.
The mayor also highlighted that this initiative helps local residents stay in Los Realejos. Adolfo González explained, "We want people who live here and wish to buy a home in their town to be able to do so, rather than having to move elsewhere because there are no affordable buying or renting options in Los Realejos."
The new local planning is also attracting investors, encouraging more development in the area. The councillor stated, "We are committed to supporting anyone who wants to invest here to increase housing options and tackle a growing problem." This refers to the significant housing challenges currently faced across Spain and the Canary Islands.
Noelia González, the Urban Planning Councillor, added that since the General Urban Planning Plan was approved, they've seen more interest from landowners and developers. These individuals see Los Realejos as a good place to build new homes in different parts of the town. She believes this is "good news for increasing housing availability and options for living in Los Realejos, all within the guidelines set by the planning document."
Finally, Mayor Adolfo González praised the hard work of the Municipal Urban Planning Department. He highlighted their "intense and effective efforts" in making the licensing process faster and more reliable. This has made it easier to get permits for building homes, meeting local demand, and attracting investment to Los Realejos, all while ensuring careful and well-planned development.
