Los Realejos Invests Over €500,000 in School Infrastructure Upgrades
Los Realejos is investing over half a million euros in a summer renovation project to modernize eight local schools and improve accessibility before the new academic year begins.
Los Realejos is currently undergoing an intensive summer project to upgrade its local schools, according to the town council. The municipality is investing over half a million euros to modernize infant and primary schools, with a focus on improving accessibility and creating more versatile spaces.
Mayor Adolfo González and Education Councillor José David Cabrera developed this strategy after consulting with local school communities. This feedback helped identify specific needs at eight public schools: Mencey Bentor, Agustín Espinosa, Pérez Zamora, La Montañeta, Toscal Longuera, San Sebastián, Palo Blanco, and La Pared. By carrying out these repairs while classes are out of session, the council aims to ensure all facilities meet modern safety and accessibility standards before the new school year begins.
The project is also supported by the Canary Islands Ministry of Education. This partnership has allowed for essential structural repairs at two secondary schools, including roof work at CEO La Pared and waterproofing at IES Cruz Santa.
In Spain, maintaining primary schools is a shared responsibility between local councils and regional governments. Coordinating these improvements during the summer break is essential to upgrading learning environments without disrupting the academic calendar.
