The town of Los Realejos has unveiled its 45th mural as part of an ongoing urban art project dedicated to preserving local Canarian history and strengthening community identity.

Los Realejos is using urban art to bring local history to life and strengthen community ties. The town’s "6 of 12" project has just added its 45th mural, continuing its mission to turn public spaces into an open-air museum.

The latest piece, created by Tenerife-based artist Jonathan Airjecor, is located on Calle Real in La Cruz Santa. It depicts the legend of how a cross was discovered in the La Raya ravine back in 1666. According to local oral tradition, the discovery was made by a rider and his horse, an event that has since become a cornerstone of the neighborhood's identity.

Coordinated by artist Víctor Pacheco—known as "Kob Tropikal"—the project is supported by the Los Realejos City Council and the AFAVER association. Since launching in 2019, the initiative has focused on blending local history with modern art. On May 14th, Mayor Adolfo González, Deputy Mayor Darío Pérez, and Culture Councilor Alba Hernández visited the site to see the final touches, emphasizing the value of keeping historical stories visible in everyday life.

By using muralism to share these stories, Los Realejos is finding a creative way to preserve Canarian heritage. These artworks do more than just decorate the streets; they act as a bridge, ensuring that centuries-old legends remain a relevant part of the community for generations to come.
