The 19th edition of the Diego Pérez Traditional Threshing Festival took place in Los Realejos, recreating ancient methods of grain cultivation and highlighting the importance of this crop for the region.

In the picturesque corner of La Corona, near Los Realejos, the 19th annual Diego Pérez Traditional Harvest Festival took place yesterday. Harvesters from the Icod el Alto area gathered to demonstrate how grain was once grown.

The event was organized by the Los Realejos Council for Rural Development and the Tenerife Grain Crops Association (Acete), with the support of local authorities, the Tenerife Rural Development Foundation, the La Trilla Equestrian Club, the La Senda del Bentor group, the organizers of the 2025 Our Lady of Good Voyage celebration, and the Ramblas de Castro and Icod de los Trigos senior citizens associations.

Los Realejos officials say that grain crops are very important to their region, especially to Icod el Alto, where "half of all the grain on the island" is grown. Therefore, it is important to support such events in order to preserve ancient traditions.

In addition to the demonstration of traditional harvesting, which included tying sheaves, loading them onto mules, and dining together, there was also a "Grain Crops Route" organized by the Rambla de Castro Nature Center and the La Senda del Bentor group.
