Los Realejos has a new general urban development plan after 14 years of waiting.
In Los Realejos, after 14 years of waiting, the general development plan has been approved, which includes the creation of seven new parks and takes into account climate change.
A new general development plan has been approved in the town of Los Realejos. It is like a large instruction manual on what and where can be built in the city. Most importantly, the plan includes as many as seven new parks!
Deputies from the People's Party voted for this plan. The Socialists abstained, and members of the Canary Coalition supported it.
This document has been awaited for a very long time – a whole 14 years! During this time, local residents submitted almost 2,400 objections and proposals. The plan has been in development since 2011, and during this time, two mayors and five chief architects have changed. Most of the comments (70%) were taken into account, and the rest were rejected because they were simply informational or did not relate to the plan.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González, says that this is a "historic event." According to him, the plan takes into account climate change and is generally made for the long term. He also added that it was very difficult to develop such a document because the city lacks money, there is a lot of paperwork, and the laws are constantly changing.
