Loro Parque Offers Free Admission to Visitors With Traditional Canarian Names on Canary Islands Day
Loro Parque in Tenerife is offering free admission on Canary Islands Day to visitors whose first names are derived from the archipelago's aboriginal heritage.
To celebrate Canary Islands Day on May 30th, Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, is hosting a special promotion. The zoo has announced that visitors with first names tied to the archipelago’s aboriginal heritage will be granted free admission.
Unlike standard residency-based discounts, this offer is limited to a specific list of names. To claim free entry, visitors must present their National Identity Document (DNI) at the park’s ticket office on the holiday.
The list includes male names associated with the ancient menceyatos (territorial divisions from before the Castilian colonization) and female names deeply rooted in island tradition. The eligible names are:
- Male: Acaimo, Beneharo, Añaterve, Adjoña, Pelinor, Romen, Pelicar, Bencomo, and Tegueste.
- Female: Dácil, Guayarmina, Guacimara, Cathaysa, and Arminda.
Beyond the promotion, the initiative highlights the importance of historical memory in modern Canarian society. These names are frequently found in local geography, literature, and cultural traditions, serving as enduring symbols of identity. By offering this gesture, the park aims to connect its leisure activities with the celebration of indigenous roots on a day of great significance for the islands.
