La Orotava will once again choose the best barraquito and zaperoco.
The gastronomic contest "My Barraquito, Your Zaperoco" will be held in La Orotava from October 1 to 19, where the best local coffee drinks, barraquito and zaperoco, will be chosen.
La Orotava will once again host the exciting gastronomic competition "My Barraquito, Your Zaperoco"! From October 1st to 19th, the best local drinks will be chosen here for the second time.
Last year's competition was a great success – almost 30 coffee shops competed, and people cast over 1,700 votes! So this year, the organizers want to make it even better and promote these traditional Tenerife drinks.
Deysi Ramos, who is responsible for commerce in the city, invites everyone to try different variations of barraquito and zaperoco. These are special coffee drinks with liqueur and sweet notes, which are very popular on the island, especially in the north.
Coffee shops will compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, and the winners will be determined by voting. The main prize is a night for two with breakfast at the Parador del Parque Nacional del Teide hotel.
But there is also a gift for visitors! Those who vote will be able to win the same night at the Parador del Teide hotel. The main condition is that you have to order drinks in at least half of the coffee shops participating in the competition.
Everything will take place online. There will be a special website with information about each coffee shop, photos of the drinks, and their descriptions. To vote, you will need to scan a QR code in the coffee shop.
The mayor of the city, Francisco Linares, believes that "My Barraquito, Your Zaperoco" is not just a competition, but a great opportunity to support local businesses, attract new visitors, and make La Orotava even more attractive to tourists. He says that last year's success showed that such events are liked by both locals and tourists, as it is a combination of taste, traditions, and something new.
If you are a coffee shop owner and want to participate, all the information and conditions of the competition can be found on the city's website. You need to register by September 18th by writing to the email address comercio @villadelaorotava.org.
