Tenerife artist Lola del Castillo will open "The Paths of Water," a new exhibition featuring oil paintings exploring reflections and drawings of coastal puddles, this Friday, January 23, at the LM Arte Colección museum in La Laguna.

A new exhibition called 'The Paths of Water' by Tenerife artist Lola del Castillo opens this Friday, January 23, at 7:00 PM. Hosted at the LM Arte Colección museum, located at 32 Obispo Rey Redondo street in La Laguna, the show will feature some of her latest works, many seen for the first time. The exhibition runs until March 21.

'The Paths of Water' explores two distinct but related themes, both centered around water. The main part of the exhibition features a series of oil paintings. In these works, Lola del Castillo uses water as a metaphor, focusing on reflections as the central subject of her canvases.

She paints water as a mirror, capturing how light and colors play across its surface. The reflections are only subtly suggested, inviting viewers to use their imagination. Only a small part of the image hints at what we think we see in the water – a space where, as the artist herself says, "every image is a lie laden with truth."

The second part of the exhibition features drawings created with pencils of various hardnesses. These pieces focus on the puddles found among coastal rocks and the ever-changing shapes they create. These small, tide-shaped spaces become surprisingly important, drawing the eye to their abstract details. Lola del Castillo sees drawing as a fundamental way to organize her thoughts and explore beyond the surface, deepening how she experiences what she sees.

Across both series, the art encourages viewers to pause and reflect on everyday scenes, turning that reflection back onto themselves.

Lola del Castillo's work shows her ongoing quest to define her unique artistic style. This journey has led her through various phases and approaches to painting, always relying on her skilled use of pencils and brushes. Her artistic path is strongly rooted in her mastery of drawing and her deep understanding of painting techniques.
