In the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, police seized nearly a thousand counterfeit items from well-known brands.
During inspections, two locations were found where clothing was being sold illegally.
In one location, 947 fakes were found: T-shirts, pants, caps, and underwear that copied Calvin Klein, Vans, Scalpers, Hugo Boss, Nike, Adidas, and other well-known brands. In another location, an additional 28 items were seized.
The fakes are made quite well, so they are difficult to distinguish from the originals.
Police are currently studying the seized items and preparing documents for court.
Gladys de Le贸n, who is responsible for public safety, emphasized that it is important for the city council that "trade in the city is fair and safe for people." She added that the sale of fakes harms not only brands and local entrepreneurs, but also buyers who think they are buying genuine items.
She assured that the police will continue to carefully check markets and other points of sale to stop illegal trade in the city.
De Le贸n also urged people to help the police and not buy fakes, as this supports the shadow economy and can be dangerous to health. She asked people to report cases of counterfeit sales and buy goods only in official stores.
