The 25th Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival has wrapped up, once again proving its dedication to boundary-pushing, independent cinema. The festival’s official awards list highlights its role as a key showcase for emerging trends in global filmmaking.

The top prize, the Golden Lady Harimaguada, was awarded to Lo demás es ruido, directed by Nicolás Pereda. The film, which receives a 20,000-euro prize, was praised for its masterful blend of cinematic technique and its deep, introspective look at gender and intergenerational relationships.

This year’s winners reflect a strong focus on the human experience during times of crisis. The Silver Lady Harimaguada and its 10,000-euro prize went to How to Divorce During the War by Andrius Blaževičius, a film that examines how geopolitical conflict impacts personal lives. The Audience Award went to 17, the debut feature from Kosara Mitić, which resonated with viewers for its powerful story of resilience.

In the acting category, Danielle Brooks took home the award for her performance in If I Go Will They Miss Me, with the jury highlighting her captivating, understated emotional range. The short film award went to Heartbeat by Jay Rosenblatt and Stephanie Rapp, a poignant look at the complexities of becoming a parent later in life. Additionally, the youth jury recognized Las líneas discontinuas by Anxos Fazáns in the Panorama España section, praising its narrative sensitivity and sound design.

Regional talent was also celebrated in the Canarias Cinema section. La lucha, directed by Jose Alayón, won the Richard Leacock Award for Best Feature Film, while Somos islas by Marta Torrecilla was named Best Short Film and received the 104 Digital Distribution Award.

For those who missed the festival, special screenings of the winning films will be held this Sunday at Cines Yelmo Arenas, giving the local community a chance to see the award-winning works from this milestone anniversary edition.
