Lidia Mirchandani Appointed Technical Director of Albania Women’s U-18 Basketball Team
Spanish coach Lidia Mirchandani has been appointed as the technical director of the Albanian women’s U-18 national basketball team as she continues to expand her international career.
Lidia Mirchandani is expanding her international coaching career. As reported by the newspaper El Día, the Tenerife native has been appointed technical director of the Albanian women’s U-18 national team, further highlighting the growing influence of Spanish coaches in emerging European basketball programs.
This appointment follows a period of close professional collaboration, as her husband, Richy González, is the current head coach of Albania’s senior national team. The Albanian federation brought Mirchandani on board to establish a consistent training philosophy across its youth programs, helping players develop a clearer competitive identity. Her work will take place in two stages: a training camp in June, followed by final preparations in July for the European Championship in Kosovo.
For Mirchandani, this role is a brief chapter in a career that has recently included coaching in Iceland with Akureyri and serving as an assistant at CNB Paterna. While leading a national team is a significant opportunity, she remains focused on eventually returning to the Spanish basketball market. Her long-term goals are centered on family stability and contributing to the growth of the sport in the Canary Islands.
Mirchandani has specifically highlighted CB Adareva as a natural fit for her eventual return. She believes women’s basketball in Tenerife has the potential to reach the national elite, provided there is a focus on building ambitious, well-structured projects. By combining her international experience with her deep understanding of the local game, Mirchandani remains a coach to watch as she looks for the right opportunity to bring her expertise back to domestic competition.
