Las Mesas Park to Close Saturday for Los Campitos Pilgrimage
Las Mesas Park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will close this Saturday, July 25, to accommodate the Los Campitos pilgrimage, which will also trigger local bus route diversions and a temporary shuttle service.
Las Mesas Park will be closed to the public this Saturday, July 25, to accommodate the Los Campitos pilgrimage. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council stated that this restriction is necessary to ensure public safety, as the large crowds and event logistics are incompatible with the park's usual recreational use.
The traditional pilgrimage will begin at 6:00 p.m., traveling from Lomo Las Casillas along the TF-111 road to the Cruz Verde parish. Due to this route, the Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility has announced several changes to local transport:
- Shuttle Service: TITSA will run a shuttle between the Los Campitos primary school and Lomo Las Casillas every 15 minutes from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Bus Route Changes: Lines 902 and 912 will be diverted, with their final stop moved to the Los Campitos pavilion. This is due to the closure of the TF-111 between Rubén Marichal and Lomo Las Casillas streets.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted the importance of the event and asked for the public’s patience regarding the access restrictions. The Anaga District Council noted that the security plan was carefully designed to manage the influx of pilgrims, carts, and livestock safely.
Authorities are urging attendees to follow the instructions of security staff and to use public transport whenever possible to help reduce traffic congestion. The event will conclude with a street party once the procession reaches its destination.
