After a successful debut season in the national elite division, Tenerife’s Las Audaces softball team is shifting its focus toward playoff contention and long-term growth through expanded youth development programs.

Las Audaces de Tenerife have firmly established themselves in the top tier of national softball, proving that their success is about more than just staying afloat—it is a sign of the sport’s growing popularity across the Canary Islands. As reported by El Día, the team’s first year in the elite division has been impressive, defying the typical struggles faced by newly promoted clubs.

The team’s season was a tale of two halves. After a challenging start with 7 wins and 15 losses, they underwent a remarkable transformation, finishing the final phase with 15 victories and only 5 losses. This late-season surge allowed them to match the win count of the Capitalinos de Gran Canaria, a team with a long history in the sport. While the Gran Canarians ultimately held the edge in their head-to-head record, Las Audaces proved they are now a serious competitor.

Technical director Benson Salas credits this improvement to the team’s rapid maturation. He notes that the experience gained during preparatory events, like the Barcelona Open, helped the players adapt to the high demands of the national league. With this progress, the club has set its sights higher for next season: rather than just avoiding relegation, they now aim to finish in the top six, which would secure a spot in the playoffs and a chance to compete for the Queen's Cup.

Looking ahead, the club is focused on long-term sustainability. By investing in their U15 and U18 youth programs, they hope to build a steady pipeline of talent. Salas points out that Tenerife is uniquely positioned for this, as the blend of local players and those from Latin American backgrounds—where softball and baseball are deeply rooted—creates the perfect environment for the sport to thrive. As they prepare for the upcoming season, the club continues to build its roster while keeping its home base in La Punta del Hidalgo at the heart of its development.
