Next Saturday, October 11, the statue of the Morenita will depart from the basilica and travel to the capital of Tenerife. Her route will pass through Candelaria, El Rosario, and La Laguna, ending at the Church of La Concepción in Santa Cruz. The return to Candelaria is scheduled for Friday, October 24, with arrival on Saturday, October 25.
Approximately 1,300 security personnel will be involved in escorting the patron saint of the Canary Islands to and from Santa Cruz. Special attention will be paid to safety during the transportation of the statue. She will be accompanied by representatives of the Civil Guard, local and Canarian police, Civil Protection, as well as medics and personnel providing logistical support.
The security plan for this pilgrimage, which takes place once every seven years, was presented on Tuesday, September 30, in the CECOPIN hall of the Cabildo of Tenerife. The command post, which will coordinate all security measures, will also be located there.
