Large Fitness Centers Reshape Leisure Habits in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The rapid success of the GOfit fitness center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which has attracted 15,800 members, highlights a growing trend of families prioritizing physical activity and large-scale sports venues in urban Spain.
Large fitness centers are changing how people in Santa Cruz de Tenerife spend their free time. Data from GOfit’s first year of operation shows a clear shift, with the facility attracting 15,800 members—a sign of the high demand for large-scale sports venues in the city.
The center’s success is largely driven by family memberships, which account for 38% of its subscriptions. This reflects a growing trend of families prioritizing physical activity together. Notably, more than 2,300 children under 15 use the facility, highlighting a change in how parents approach their children’s development and health.
The center remains busy, recording over 80,000 visits each month. To keep up with this demand, the facility hosts 1,000 guided classes monthly, helping to manage space and keep members engaged. This trend aligns with local government efforts to improve public health and prevent disease by encouraging active lifestyles. Since the pandemic, the fitness industry in Spain has become more professional, establishing itself as a key social and economic force in major cities.
