La Victoria de Acentejo Completes Major Urban Renewal Project on TF-217

La Victoria de Acentejo has reached a new milestone in its urban renewal project along the TF-217, the town’s main road. The recent opening of La Pólvora square and new facilities for local taxi drivers marks a significant step in the municipality’s efforts to improve its busiest commercial area.

The €400,000 project, funded by the City Council and the Cabildo de Tenerife, does more than just improve the town's appearance; it addresses two long-standing needs. By transforming a previously unused plot of land, the council has created a new recreational space for residents while providing taxi drivers with a permanent base. This upgrade improves working conditions for drivers and ensures that elderly residents and those in higher-altitude areas—where public transport is often limited—continue to have reliable access to essential travel.

This project is part of a broader plan to revitalize the town center. Recent improvements include the remodeling of Antigua square, the addition of public murals, and the construction of new roundabouts, all designed to make the area more pedestrian-friendly despite the heavy traffic on the main road.

Looking ahead, Mayor Juan Antonio García has confirmed that the council will continue to prioritize road safety and accessibility. Future plans include widening sidewalks and installing raised pedestrian crossings. These steps are part of a wider effort by towns across northern Tenerife to modernize their infrastructure, balancing the need for busy transit routes with the desire to create safer, more livable spaces for the community.
