La Vera Residents Prioritize Shade, Skatepark for New Park
La Vera residents, through a public consultation, prioritized ample shade, a skatepark, and an area for older residents for their new 5,000 sqm park, with feasible suggestions to be included in the final design.
When designing their new neighborhood park, La Vera residents' top priority is having plenty of shade so people can enjoy the space all day. This park will be quite large, covering over 5,000 square meters. Other key interests include a skatepark or skating area, which is especially popular with young people, as well as a dedicated area for older residents. People also want better security and maintenance. These preferences show a desire for a park that prioritizes well-being, accessibility, and good care for everyone.
Other popular suggestions include places to relax and socialize, water fountains, picnic areas, an amphitheater, and drinking water points. These additions would help create a functional and lively park, perfect for hosting cultural events and recreational activities.
Less frequently requested, but still mentioned, were ping-pong tables, traditional play areas, and courts for racket sports.
Residents also asked for a dog park, though this will be considered for a different location, not within this specific park. The aim is to ensure people and their pets can coexist responsibly.
These ideas were gathered through a public consultation process, including various neighborhood meetings organized by the Department of Participation, specifically through the PFAE GJ Dinamiza Puerto de la Cruz 202 program. During this process, 194 surveys were completed, gathering 326 contributions from residents. These numbers highlight how keen citizens are to help design a public space that aims to become a central hub for community life.
The company responsible for the project will review all these contributions and include the technically feasible suggestions in the final design for La Vera's new large park. David Hernández, the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Sustainable City, emphasized that "the involvement of La Vera residents in these decisions shows that when genuine opportunities to be heard are provided, citizens respond with dedication and a strong sense of community. These consultations not only improve projects but also build trust and transparency in public administration."
