La Rambla Residents to Protest Dangerous TF-5 Highway Access Sunday
Residents of La Rambla will protest this Sunday at noon at a dangerous TF-5 highway access point, demanding immediate safety improvements for their neighborhood.
Residents of La Rambla are holding another protest this Sunday at noon. They'll meet at the dangerous spot on the TF-5 highway where it enters their neighborhood in San Juan de la Rambla. They're demanding a quick fix to make it safer to get in and out of the area. This could be a pedestrian crossing, a smart traffic light, or a central island to help people turn safely towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Adela Abreu, a spokesperson for the group "Todos con La Rambla," expressed frustration. "We can't understand why we have experts who don't find solutions, or politicians who don't find better experts. We also don't get why 120 square meters of land are more important than removing two homes where people live. People are more important than plants and animals that need protecting."
Abreu added, "We've seen three different plans, and I doubt even our grandchildren will see them finished because they're just delaying things. Elections come, new leaders take over, and we're back to the start. They keep talking about projects, but meanwhile, we risk our lives daily. They can plan as much as they want, but in the meantime, we need a temporary solution."
She also reminded everyone of what Rosa Dávila said in June 2022 when she visited the area as a deputy. "She promised that if she was elected to the island government, she would push for urgent action to fix the access problems in La Rambla. She mentioned the suicidal bus stop built a couple of years ago, which teenagers and tourists use while risking being hit by cars." Abreu concluded, "It's easy to make promises when you're not in charge."
