The CajaCanarias Foundation is hosting a two-day workshop on journalistic caricature led by cartoonist Agustín Sciammarella in La Palma this weekend.

This weekend, La Palma will host a series of workshops exploring the art of journalistic caricature. Hosted by the CajaCanarias Foundation, cartoonist Agustín Sciammarella will teach participants how to capture a subject’s identity through line work—a process that goes beyond simple drawing to require deep sociological observation.

Part of the "Spring at the Foundation" series, the program aims to reveal the techniques artists use to capture the true essence of a character. The event is split into two sessions at the Foundation’s Cultural Space in the island’s capital: a theoretical lecture this Friday at 6:00 p.m., followed by a practical workshop on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Sciammarella’s approach treats the artist's gaze as an analytical tool. In an era dominated by fast-paced imagery, these sessions highlight how drawing can serve as a language to decode gestures and personality, helping us better interpret the world around us.

Attendance is free, though participants must reserve a spot in advance via the official website, www.cajacanarias.com. Through this initiative, the Foundation continues its mission to bring leading illustrators to the island, fostering a space for reflection on the role of visual arts in modern communication.
