Over 2,000 athletes are set to compete in the 14th Reventón El Paso trail race on La Palma, which features adjusted routes due to recent rainfall and hosts the Canary Islands Promotion Category Championship.

The 14th edition of the Reventón El Paso Fred.Olsen Express is shaping up to be a landmark event for trail running in the Canary Islands. With over 2,000 athletes registered, the La Palma race is more than just a major sporting event; it is also hosting the Canary Islands Promotion Category Championship, helping to identify the next generation of talent in the sport.

Recent rainfall on La Palma has changed the course conditions, adding a technical challenge that will force runners to focus on strategy rather than just raw speed. This uncertainty is heightened by a competitive field of elite national and international athletes, including Azara García, Aroa Sio, Mario Olmedo, and Lucien Epiney, all of whom will face a demanding and unpredictable route.

For safety reasons, race organizers have adjusted the routes for the 70.5-kilometer Ultratrail and the 42.2-kilometer Marathon. Working with Caldera de Taburiente National Park officials, they have rerouted the section through La Cumbrecita. Runners will now be diverted at the 13-kilometer mark toward the Riachuelo area before rejoining the original path, a change that shortens the total distance by 500 meters.

The event kicks off at 7:00 a.m. on Avenida Islas Canarias with the longest races, followed by the Classic (31.8 km) at 8:30 a.m., the Sprint (17.5 km) at 9:30 a.m., and the Starter race. Fans can follow the action via a live broadcast starting at 6:50 a.m. on the event’s official channels and at www.carrerasdemontana.com. Coverage will continue until the women’s Marathon podium is decided.
