La Orotava Valley Charity Walk Returns This Sunday to Support Autism Awareness
A popular charity walk returns to the La Orotava Valley this Sunday to raise funds for the autism support organization Visión Azul Autismo.
A popular charity walk in the La Orotava Valley returns this Sunday, continuing a tradition that blends local faith with community support. What started seven years ago as a small neighborhood gathering in Los Realejos has grown into a major regional event that successfully raises money for important social causes.
The walk begins at 8:30 a.m. at La Cartaya square, following a route that connects the chapels of La Cruz Santa, San Agustín, and Puerto de la Cruz. This year, all proceeds will go to Visión Azul Autismo, an organization that supports families living with autism. Such groups are essential in the Canary Islands, where volunteers often step in to provide services that public resources cannot cover.
Participants can support the cause by purchasing a five-euro t-shirt, and additional donations can be made in collection boxes along the route. To ensure everyone can take part, organizers are providing a bus service for the elderly and those with reduced mobility.
The event has a strong track record of helping those in need. After pausing during the pandemic, the walk returned in 2022 to support victims of the La Palma volcanic eruption, and in 2025, it funded the planting of 111 lemon trees for the Fundación Canaria José Luis Montesinos.
Given its growing success, organizers plan to expand the route next year to include the municipality of La Orotava, covering the entire Valley. The event will conclude with a community lunch at the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex, celebrating an initiative that has turned neighborhood spirit into a powerful tool for social change since 2017.
