The La Orotava City Council will soon invite bids for a €2.5 million project to build a new 245-space parking facility in La Torrita, funded by regional and local governments, to improve access to the historic centre and support sustainable urban mobility.

The La Orotava City Council will soon invite bids for a project to build a new parking area in the La Torrita part of the municipality. This new facility will offer 245 parking spaces. By taking this step, the local government is delivering on its promise to make parking easier for residents of Villa de Arriba. The project also aims to improve mobility and access for both residents and visitors by providing parking close to the historic centre and shopping areas.

Designed by Gesplan, a public company, the project includes access from Villalba Hervás and Teobaldo Power streets. It will also feature a pedestrian path connecting to Victoria Garden and the historic centre, making it easier to walk between these areas. Trees and plants will be added around the site to help the new structure blend into the landscape.

The work is expected to take a year to complete and will cost 2,535,839 euros. The Canary Islands Government is contributing one million euros, and the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife) is also providing one million. The La Orotava City Council will cover the remaining amount, over half a million euros. The City Council also bought the land for the project, costing 1,300,000 euros.

The entire site is over 8,000 square meters. Around 3,000 square meters will be used for parking spaces, spread across two areas at different levels.

This project fits with the goals of Agenda 2030 for sustainable transport and parking. La Orotava has a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PEMUS), which aims to turn much of its historic area into a pedestrian-friendly space, free from vehicle pollution. This means parking is needed on the outskirts of the historic centre and shopping district. The new La Torrita parking facility, just a few meters from the historic centre, will allow people to leave their cars and walk into town. Additionally, the project supports the use of low-emission vehicles by including electric charging points.
