The inaugural Resonancias del Atlántico festival will take place at La Orotava’s Liceo de Taoro from May 21 to 24, featuring concerts, workshops, and a competition aimed at modernizing the Canarian timple and fostering professional talent.

The first edition of Resonancias del Atlántico will take place at the Liceo de Taoro in La Orotava from May 21 to 24. This event aims to modernize the timple—the iconic instrument of Canarian folklore—by blending traditional sounds with contemporary styles and promoting professional growth for its players.

The festival goes beyond a standard concert series by combining performances with workshops and a competition. The schedule includes:

  • May 21, 7:00 p.m.: Opening recital by Pedro Izquierdo.
  • May 23, 8:00 p.m.: Gala concert featuring José Javier Machado.
  • May 24, 6:00 p.m.: Closing event with the Trío Índice y Medio and rhapsodist Isidro Pérez.

A key highlight is the inaugural Timple Competition, which is open to musicians aged 12 and older. The contest aims to discover new talent by offering cash prizes, musical equipment, and professional performance opportunities. The first-place winner will receive 300 euros, a DS concert instrument, educational materials, a diploma, and a guaranteed performance in the summer of 2027. Second and third-place winners will also receive prizes, diplomas, and performance contracts.

By connecting academic training with public performance, the festival hopes to help younger generations move from oral traditions into the modern music industry. This initiative seeks to elevate the timple by moving it beyond a purely traditional role and integrating it into today’s professional music scene.
