La Orotava: Shop Local for Valentine's, Get D.O. Wine
La Orotava City Council is offering a free bottle of D.O. Valle de La Orotava wine to customers spending €30 or more at participating local small businesses from February 9-14, aiming to boost commerce and promote local wines.
La Orotava City Council has launched a new initiative to help local small businesses and, at the same time, promote wines from the La Orotava Valley, which have a special quality designation. This plan, often used during important shopping seasons, is timed for Valentine's Day. It offers a direct incentive to customers who choose to shop in the town's main shopping area, known as the Open Commercial Zone.
The campaign runs from February 9 to 14. During this time, if you spend 30 euros or more at any participating shop, you'll receive a bottle of D.O. Valle de La Orotava wine. To get your free bottle, simply show your original receipt at a special booth. This booth is located on Puente de la Carrera, on Escultor Estévez street. It will be open from 10 AM to 1 PM and again from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Councillor for Commerce, Deisy Ramos, highlighted an important detail about this promotion: it has specific exclusions. The initiative is designed to help small shops and specialized businesses. It does not include large stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, petrol stations, pharmacies, tobacconists, or lottery shops. This rule ensures that the money spent goes directly to the traditional local businesses that are at the heart of the town's commerce.
Mayor Francisco Linares explained that this initiative offers "double recognition." It supports both local businesses and the wine sector, which is a vital part of the local economy. However, there's a limited supply of wine bottles, and they will be distributed randomly. This gives participants a chance to discover the diverse varieties produced by the local D.O. wineries. The strategy not only encourages people to shop but also showcases the region's rich wine heritage, strengthening La Orotava's identity as a gastronomic destination.
