La Orotava Renews Partnership with European University to Offer Student Scholarships

La Orotava City Council and the European University of the Canary Islands have renewed their partnership for the 2026-2027 academic year, launching a scholarship program to help local residents with tuition costs. This initiative aims to make higher education more accessible by removing financial barriers for students.

The program offers 20 subsidized spots for first-year students. This includes five scholarships covering 50% of tuition fees and 15 grants providing a 10% discount. Please note that several programs are excluded from this offer, including Medicine, Dentistry, certain Nursing and Physiotherapy courses, Blended Learning Pharmacy, Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, the Blended Learning Master’s in Teacher Training, and all doctoral studies.

To qualify, applicants must have been residents of La Orotava for at least one year. There are also academic requirements: a minimum grade point average of 6 for undergraduate degrees and 6.5 for postgraduate programs. Applications can be submitted between July 27 and August 27 through the municipal Electronic Office or in person at the General Registry by appointment. Applicants will need to provide family and tax documentation, including their 2025 income tax return.

Since opening in 2012, the European University of the Canary Islands has become a major part of the region's education system. With over 35 degree programs, the university focuses on innovation and career readiness. Its presence in La Orotava—which includes specialized facilities like a simulated hospital—complements its main campus in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. By working together, the City Council and the university are strengthening the town’s position as a key academic hub in the north of the island.
