La Orotava City Council has opened registration for its traditional June 5th "baile de magos," requiring attendees to wear folk attire and secure table reservations by May 25th to comply with strict safety and capacity limits.

La Orotava City Council has begun the application process for the traditional "baile de magos" (folk dance) taking place on the night of June 5th. To attend this event, guests must wear traditional attire. Because the celebration at the Plaza del Quinto Centenario requires careful planning to ensure safety, the council is strictly managing the use of public space.

The city has set a capacity limit of 140 tables and 1,400 chairs to comply with safety protocols. Due to high demand, the council warns that the registration period—which runs until May 25th—may close early if all spots are filled. Applications must be submitted through the municipal website. Each reservation must include at least one table and six chairs, with a maximum of ten seats allowed per booking.

The fee for using the space is 7.05 euros per table and 1.25 euros per chair. Once approved, participants must display their permit during the event, which runs from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. The council also reminds attendees that they are responsible for cleaning up all food and waste before leaving to ensure the plaza remains in good condition.

These events are a vital part of Canarian culture, and the council’s strict planning and registration process are essential to managing the large crowds while keeping the historic town center safe and orderly for everyone.
