The Maderas Evelio–Cristalería Drago Night Vertical in La Orotava successfully combined high-level athletic competition, including a new course record by Diego Méntrida, with a strong commitment to inclusive sports and social causes.

The latest Maderas Evelio–Cristalería Drago Night Vertical in La Orotava has once again proven itself to be a leading event for inclusive sports in the Canary Islands. The race, which served as a lead-up to the 14th Hospiten 8KM Orotava, attracted nearly 200 athletes and a large crowd to the Plaza de San Juan Bautista.

Beyond the competition, the event was a powerful showcase for adaptive sports. Norberto Chávez made history by completing the course on a handbike, while María Petit—who also climbed Mount Teide that same week—participated alongside Daniela and Marcos Luis, highlighting the importance of teamwork and perseverance. The involvement of groups like the Pichón Trail Project, Atletas Sin Fronteras, and the Yo Corro por Lúa initiative further cemented the Orotava Circuit’s reputation for balancing competitive racing with a deep commitment to social causes.

In the individual races, Diego Méntrida secured the men’s victory and set a new course record of 4:25, followed by Ayose Perdigón (4:51) and Alexander Escobar García (4:56). In the women’s category, Ana Alicia Yanes took first place with a time of 5:50, with Libertad Rivero (5:57) and Sonia Peña Ramos (6:36) rounding out the podium.

Several teams and pairs were also recognized for their performances. In the relay category, wins went to Los Bichos (men’s, 4:57), the team of Miriam Cristina González and África Thadani (women’s, 6:45), and the Tractomula Team (mixed, 6:41). In the pairs division, Los Bebés took the men’s title (6:05), while the Daroyovid tandem won the mixed category (6:58). The strong turnout and enthusiastic public support confirm that this event continues to successfully blend high-level athletic performance with a meaningful commitment to the community.
