La Orotava City Council has launched a local shopping campaign featuring travel voucher prizes and a magic festival to boost commerce ahead of Mother’s Day.

La Orotava City Council has launched a new campaign to boost local business in time for Mother’s Day. Led by the Commerce Department and Deisy Ramos, the initiative encourages residents to shop locally between April 20 and 30 by offering the chance to win travel vouchers.

Beyond supporting the economy, the council is hosting cultural events to draw crowds to the town center. The highlight is the eighth annual Magic Festival, taking place on May 2 at Plaza Franchy Alfaro. The event will be hosted by popular digital creator Edgard Caro, also known as "Sensillocons," and is produced by Barco de Papel Canarias and 10 de Corazones.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy by Canary Island municipalities to help local shops compete with large retailers and online shopping. By pairing shopping incentives with free family entertainment, the council aims to keep the town center vibrant and encourage community loyalty.

To enter the raffle, shoppers can drop their purchase coupons into the ballot box at the Municipal Tourism Office. For those who miss the earlier deadline, there is a final opportunity to enter at the event on May 2 until 1:00 p.m., when the winner will be drawn. Mayor Francisco Linares emphasized that these initiatives are vital for both supporting local businesses and strengthening the community spirit in the north of the island.
