La Orotava Launches Campaign to Boost Local Business Ahead of School Year
La Orotava City Council has launched its "I shop in La Orotava" campaign, offering residents a chance to win laptops by shopping at local businesses through September 6 to boost the town's economy.
La Orotava City Council has launched the latest round of its "I shop in La Orotava" campaign to boost local business during the final weeks of summer.
Led by the Commerce department and Councilwoman Deisy Ramos, the initiative aims to support small businesses as they compete with large retail chains and online shopping platforms. By encouraging residents to shop locally, the council hopes to help neighborhood stores navigate the challenges of digitalization and maintain their competitive edge.
To participate, customers must spend at least 30 euros at any of the more than 40 participating shops before September 6. Each qualifying purchase earns a ticket for a raffle to win one of two laptops—a prize designed to help families with their back-to-school and work expenses. Participating stores will display official signage and collect entries, which will be held securely until the final draw at the local radio station, La Voz Joven.
Mayor Francisco Linares believes these efforts are vital to keeping the town’s economy strong. Councilwoman Ramos added that the campaign is about more than just sales; it is designed to highlight the value of personalized service and the unique variety offered by local merchants, ultimately strengthening the bond between the community and its small business owners.
