La Orotava Launches €300,000 Stimulus Plan to Offset Back-to-School Costs
The La Orotava City Council is launching a 300,000-euro stimulus program on September 8th that offers residents half-price vouchers to ease back-to-school costs while supporting local businesses.
The La Orotava City Council is launching a new economic stimulus plan to help families manage the costs of the upcoming school year. The initiative, titled "I shop in La Orotava," aims to boost local business by offering a direct discount system starting September 8th.
The council has set aside a budget of 300,000 euros for the program. Of this, 265,000 euros will go directly toward subsidizing purchases, while the remaining funds will cover the digital platform’s technical and administrative costs. Under this scheme, residents can buy 20-euro vouchers for just 10 euros, with the city council covering the other half.
Each person can purchase up to ten vouchers, allowing them to spend 200 euros while only paying 100 euros. The timing is designed to help families offset the seasonal spike in expenses for school supplies, uniforms, and footwear.
Starting September 8th, residents can purchase these vouchers through the website yocomproenlaorotava.com. Local businesses interested in joining the program should apply via the email address provided by the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA), which is managing the technical side of the project. By launching this initiative, the municipality hopes to ease the financial burden on families while encouraging residents to shop locally, supporting small businesses against larger retailers and online competitors.
