La Orotava Hosts Annual ‘DiverSaldo’ Clearance Fair to Boost Local Retail

La Orotava is once again focusing on local retail as a key part of its municipal strategy. On October 3rd, the town will host the latest edition of its popular clearance fair, "DiverSaldo." This event has become a benchmark in Tenerife for blending stock liquidation with a wide range of entertainment, all designed to bring life to the historic center through a large open-air market.

The fair will run continuously from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring nearly 80 local businesses. Stalls will be set up across a central route covering Avenida de Canarias, Calle Calvario, Puente del Escultor Estévez, Calle San Agustín, and Plaza de la Constitución. The event stands out for its variety; alongside traditional items like clothing, footwear, hardware, and electronics, shoppers will also find more unique offerings, including used vehicles and property listings.

Beyond shopping, the City Council has organized a series of activities as part of the "I shop in La Orotava" campaign to turn the town center into a family-friendly destination. Calle San Agustín will host robotics workshops and children's games, while the Plaza de la Constitución will serve as the hub for food and drink. Live music, including a performance by the group La Chalana, will round out the day, aiming to boost sales for both the street vendors and the local shops operating from their permanent storefronts.

This model, originally created to help merchants clear out end-of-season stock, highlights the municipality's commitment to supporting local businesses over large retail chains. By combining shopping with dining and entertainment, the local government hopes to provide an immediate economic boost while strengthening the town’s unique commercial identity. After years of success, the fair remains a vital part of La Orotava’s economic calendar.
