La Matanza de Acentejo is investing nearly €3.5 million in a climate-conscious, multi-purpose sports pavilion featuring rainwater harvesting, renewable energy, and expanded facilities to enhance the town's sports complex.

Climate change is influencing the design of the new pavilion in La Matanza de Acentejo. The plan includes a reservoir that can hold over 1,400 cubic meters of rainwater. This water will be collected from the sports complex and used to irrigate El Montillo urban park, which is about 300 meters away. The pavilion will also use renewable energy sources to reduce energy consumption and have a natural light system to make the most of daylight.

The sports facilities in La Matanza de Acentejo are getting a major upgrade with this new multipurpose pavilion, which will cover more than 4,500 square meters. There are also plans to expand the existing building in the town center. The project plans have recently been drawn up, and the town council is announcing the purchase of two neighboring plots of land on its website. These plots cover almost 400 square meters and are valued at over 55,000 euros. The La Matanza de Acentejo Town Council is starting negotiations with the landowners, according to town officials.

The budget for the new multipurpose pavilion and the planned extensions is nearly three and a half million euros. It will connect to the current facility and the soccer field, creating a unified sports area. The goal, according to the project, is to increase the capacity of the existing facility. Specifically, the locker rooms for the large soccer field will be expanded, and new support areas for sports will be added.

These construction projects will add to the approximately 20,000 square meters already occupied by the La Matanza sports complex. This complex includes two swimming pools, one 38 meters long and another 25 meters long. There's also a range of other sports facilities, including six covered paddle tennis courts, two tennis courts, two squash courts, and multipurpose activity rooms.

The future sports building will be open to the public and will cater to various sports. It will feature a gym of almost 500 square meters and a court for different sports, covering 1,600 square meters. The court can be divided into two sections and will be used for indoor soccer, handball, basketball, badminton, and volleyball.

The building will have three floors. The ground floor, at court level, will house the locker rooms, storage, and two warm-up and sports activity rooms. The main entrance, with the bleachers, cafeteria, and another activity room, will be on the first floor. The second floor will have additional spaces for physical activities and training.
