La Laguna's annual Zombie Walk drew over a thousand participants and spectators to the historic center, kicking off the ninth Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival.

Yesterday, La Laguna's historic center held its annual Zombie Walk. This event kicks off the ninth Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival, which runs from November 7 to 16. Sponsored by the City Council's Culture department, the zombie procession drew over a thousand people, including both participants and spectators.

Starting at 5:00 p.m. in Plaza del Adelantado, people could get free zombie makeup and enjoy food samples. The festival's famous King Kong figure was also on display there. Around 8:00 p.m., the parade began from the plaza, moving along Obispo Rey Redondo street to Plaza de la Concepción before returning to its starting point via Herradores street. The Zombie Walk ended with an awards ceremony for the best-dressed and most convincing zombies, both individuals and groups.

Airam Fernández hosted the event, stepping in for comedian Aarón Gómez, who couldn't make it due to a last-minute health issue. The Tejina Music Band and other groups provided entertainment, while artist and choreographer Daniel Baute led the parade, setting the pace.

Culture councilor Adrián del Castillo attended and praised the organizers of the Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera for their efforts. The Isla Calavera Tenerife Zombie Walk first took place in 2018 and 2019. After a break due to the pandemic, it returned successfully in 2022. This year's walk was held for Halloween, as one of the festival's side events.

Also related to the festival and the city, Isla Calavera and La Laguna Commercial Zone, with support from Fauca, are running a "Window to the Fantastic" window display contest until November 15. The contest will award the three best displays themed around the fantastic film genre with advertising campaigns on Multicines Tenerife screens.
