La Laguna Unveils New Strategic Calendar to Promote Traditional Festivals
San Cristóbal de La Laguna has centralized its festive calendar to better preserve Canarian folklore and enhance the visibility of its traditional pilgrimages for residents and tourists alike.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna has officially unveiled its festive calendar, marking a shift toward a more professional approach to preserving the city’s cultural heritage. By grouping the presentations of its traditional pilgrimages within the historic city center—a UNESCO World Heritage site—the municipality is not just organizing its summer schedule, but also strengthening its role as a leader in protecting Canarian folklore.
The Department of Festivals, led by Dailos González, has outlined a series of events running from the northern districts through to the start of autumn. The announcement was celebrated with a parade of folk groups and neighborhood associations traveling from the Plaza de La Concepción to the Cathedral square. The centerpiece of this schedule is the Pilgrimage of San Benito Abad, which holds special regional recognition for its unique cultural significance.
Beyond the festivities themselves, the launch event honored the local groups who keep these traditions alive. Hosted by journalist Alexis Hernández, the presentation included a musical performance titled ‘Mayos y Folías,’ featuring artists Ayla Rodríguez, David Duque, and Nancy Toro.
This new strategy aims to make it easier for both residents and tourists to plan their visits, reflecting a growing trend among Spanish cities to promote their traditions more effectively. By centralizing information, La Laguna is ensuring its festivals get the visibility they deserve, providing a clear guide for the public while supporting the social and economic life of the municipality’s many neighborhoods.
