La Laguna is set to transform its historic center this Saturday, May 23, for the rescheduled Family Day 2026. Originally postponed due to bad weather, the event aims to highlight the city’s commitment to social cohesion and its status as a UNICEF-recognized "Child-Friendly City."
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez and Social Welfare head María Cruz have announced a packed schedule of over 100 free activities. The initiative is designed to provide accessible family entertainment while boosting local shops and restaurants in the city center.
Under the theme "La Laguna, a city where you grow up playing," the festivities will span several key locations:
- Plaza del Adelantado: Circus performances.
- Calle Obispo Rey Redondo: Inflatable attractions and various workshops.
- Plaza Hermano Ramón: An immersive Jurassic-themed experience.
- Casa Mesa: A storytelling event based on the tale of Aladdin.
- Cathedral area: Stages for children’s shows.
- Plaza Doctor Olivera: Large-format games.
- Calle San Agustín: An obstacle course and demonstrations of sports like boxing and Canarian wrestling.
- Plazoleta de Zerolo: Traditional games, organized by local groups to celebrate Canarian heritage.
Additionally, Calle Herradores and Calle Obispo Rey Redondo will host workshops focused on sustainability, visual arts, and circus skills. The City Council plans to turn the historic center into an open-air playground, with activities running throughout the morning and afternoon.
