La Laguna to Host 2026 Royal Elite Cup Featuring Global Youth Football Academies

La Laguna is set to become a global hub for youth football this September. From the 4th to the 6th, the Javier Pérez Sports City will host the 2026 Royal Elite Cup, an Under-11 tournament featuring 16 of the world’s most prestigious youth academies.

The event is more than just a competition between top Canary Island clubs and international elites; it is also a charitable initiative. Organized by the Pedro Rodríguez Ledesma Foundation in partnership with Sports & Management, the tournament will donate a portion of its proceeds to the pediatric department at the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital. This reflects a growing trend in Spanish grassroots sports, where organizers are increasingly using their platform to support meaningful social causes.

The tournament will follow a 7-a-side format, with teams starting in four groups before moving on to the Gold, Silver, or Bronze stages. To ensure the players' well-being, organizers have implemented a mandatory 90-minute rest period between matches, following professional sports medicine guidelines for young athletes.

Supported by local institutions and championed by Pedro Rodríguez, the event will have significant media coverage. Televisión Canaria will broadcast the games, while DAZN will provide international reach. Attendees can also expect a professional experience, including a 150-square-meter hospitality area and real-time match statistics via a dedicated app.

The weekend will also feature a "Legends Game" starring football icons like David Silva and Pedro Rodríguez. The tournament concludes on Sunday, September 6, with the Gold Cup final and an awards ceremony honoring team achievements, fair play, and individual standouts in goalkeeping, attacking, and coaching. Admission is free, making this a landmark event that firmly establishes Tenerife as a key destination for European youth football.
