La Laguna City Council's Department of Equality and Women will celebrate International Women's Day with events in March and plans to release "Inspiring Women" in 2026, a book documenting the life stories of 14 influential local women.

La Laguna City Council's Department of Equality and Women is planning a series of events for next March to celebrate International Women's Day. City officials have announced that a key project for 2026 will be the release of a book called 'Inspiring Women.' This book aims to document the life stories of important women from different areas and communities across the city.

La Laguna's Mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, stated that this publication will honor the work and influence of fourteen women. Their examples and significant contributions are considered valuable for younger generations and the entire community.

Dailos González, the Councillor for Equality and Women, highlighted how crucial these women have been in supporting the city's social, cultural, and community life for many years. He believes their dedication deserves public recognition. González added that the book features a diverse group of women, representing all six districts. He noted that while these women are a selection, many others in the city also serve as role models.

The book will share the life stories and experiences of:

  • Milagros Melián Alonso (Punta del Hidalgo)
  • Carmen Teresa Expósito González (San Diego)
  • Clara Delfina González Díaz (Tejina)
  • Rosalía Quintero Fariña (Guamasa)
  • Concepción Mendoza González (Valle de Guerra)
  • Ernestina Ramos Bacallado (Geneto)
  • Paquita Moreno Fuentes (historic center)
  • María de la Cruz Cáceres Martín (Bajamar)
  • María del Carmen Bello Machado (San Matías)
  • María García Fuentes (El Cardonal)
  • María Mercedes Rojas Martín (Las Mercedes)
  • Miguelina Palacios Díaz (Finca España)
  • Antonia Sotera Ramos (Las Carboneras)
  • Ana Delia Ruíz González (El Rocío)

The Department of Equality and Women will announce the rest of the International Women's Day (8M) events in La Laguna later this month.
