A man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after a police chase involving a stolen car. During the pursuit, he damaged two police vehicles and injured two officers. The incident happened in La Laguna, where both officers sustained minor injuries as the man tried to get away.
The chase began in the Finca España neighborhood. Local police spotted a gray Fiat Tipo, which had been reported stolen, driving down a street. Officers told the driver, a middle-aged man from the Canary Islands, to pull over, but he refused. During his escape, he hit an unmarked car used to support victims of gender violence, though he didn't know its purpose at the time. He also knocked down a lamppost and a sign in La Laguna, according to sources.
The man drove against traffic at times, entering Camino de La Piterita and heading towards the La Candelaria neighborhood in La Cuesta. His escape ended at the intersection of Machado and Fiesco streets when he crashed into a Volkswagen van. Immediately after, a La Laguna Local Police patrol car, carrying two officers, hit the back of the stolen Fiat Tipo.
Two officers were injured in this final collision. Despite their injuries, they got out of their vehicle and arrested the man. He was arrested on suspicion of stealing a car and reckless driving. Following further investigation, he will appear before a judge in La Laguna.
